Following highly successful sandbox trials in 2022, conducted on behalf of the Home Office, in two national supermarkets, which involved digital age verification, the results were reported to the UK Government.

Since these trials concluded, there has been a change of Government, which has delayed progression of Digital Age Verification. This will be the first major update since the Sale of Liquor Act 1989.

Keen to update Licensing Laws further, the present Government now plan in 2025 to Legislate, for a digital age verification system. This will help those old enough to purchase alcohol, make the purchase much simpler. This will require the purchaser to complete a one-off registration via an ‘app.’
